Summer Celebration

This years' Summer Celebration was the 4th show we've done at JCC Park over the past 3 yrs, and it was the FIRST TIME that we had nice weather for the entire day. This time around we added a few more bands, and had a few more people turn out, making this the biggest outdoor show we've had yet. It was an absolutely perfect day in the park with little kids and dogs running around, bigger kids catching frogs and crayfish in the creek, and the grown folks rocking out with 8 bands, food from the grill, and fresh Harvest Ale from Southern Tier Brewing Co. Our friends from Labyrinth Press Company were also on hand, serving good coffee right when we needed it, and once again donating all of their profits from the day to the AAAlliance.

Of course, the Mobile Gallery Tent was on display, featuring brand new works from Kim Babnik, Dave Grice, Angela Caley, Bill Thomas, and Jay Peck. The bands/musicians for the day were Tara Lamont, Cindy Haight, King Rail, Lord Baltimore, The Secret Stash, Sleeping Giant, and Smackdab. We could not have asked for a better lineup of bands. seriously. The after-party was held at Mojo's with another long set from our good friends Sleeping Giant, and Mojo's monthly Intensify Dance Party with DJ's Beachcomber and Brother Curry.

Including the after-party, there was live music non-stop from 1 pm - 2 am. Another good day in Jamestown. We're already making plans to take these JCC events up another level for next summer. Stay Tuned.

2008 Spring Showcase

The AAAlliance Spring Showcase in Jamestown, NY was once again greeted by rainy weather, as well as spirits that once again refused to be dampened. This years' event marked the best turnout and the hardest rain yet for one of our 100 acre lot shows. The live music was provided by Sleeping Giant from Rochester, NY, The Global Village Idiots from Buffalo, Milking Large Mammals from Watertown, NY, and Cindy Haight and Smackdab from Jamestown, NY. New visual works were on display from long-time AAAlliance collaborators and new members alike, including Dave Grice, Kim Babnick, Bill Thomas, Erin Pickering, Steve Badgely, Jay Peck, and James Bliss. The flyer was designed by Nathan Long.

This year's showcase was the first AAAlliance event for which we also organized a proper After-Party. When the park closed and the showcase ended at 9, we packed everything up and headed down the road to Carol's Silver Dollar to keep the party going. We were treated to a set from Jamestown's hottest up-and-coming Jamband, the Secret Stash, as well as another set of incredible reggae / funk / soul from Sleeping Giant. It was the perfect ending to a good, rainy day. We can't thank the people who were involved with this show enough. Everyone was great to work with, all of the bands and artists, the people at JCC building and grounds dept, The guy from Labyrinth Press Co, who served coffee and then gave us all of the money that he had raised, Carol at the Silver Dollar, and the adoring Jamestown masses who once again donned their raincoats and party hats to help support their Local Music / Arts Scene.

2008 Music Appreciation Day
May 9, 2008 - May 11, 2008

Music Appreciation Day 2008 took place on a beautiful plot of land in South Dayton, NY, during a perfect weekend. There was tons of room in the woods for camping, and plenty of parking which was nice and close to the camping. There were two different small stages, a pond where people were fishing and passing bottles of wine, and a REALLY strong, diverse lineup of bands hailing mainly from Western and Central, NY. The lineup included On The Sly, The Macro Meltdown, The Secret Stash, Headie Lemar, New Clear Fusion, and Ska/Funk from To The 9's, who had people talking all weekend, specifically about their cover of Warren G's "Regulators".

This festival was also the first 2008 appearance of the AAAlliance Mobile Gallery Tent, with a one-man show of new work from AAAlliance Co-Founder Bill Thomas. This festival seemed like it had everything, good bands, perfect setting, perfect weather, good people involved, the only problem was the small turnout. This is an epidemic that has been noticed lately at several high-quality local events. There was a fair number of people watching each of the bands, but most of them were the musicians from the other bands. There were very few "paying customers" in the crowd. This was still a very enjoyable party, those of us who were there had an excellent time, and the small turnout makes for a much more intimate event, but you can't help thinking that the promoters and organizers must have lost money on this one.

We can only hope that 2008's turnout didn't break the spirits of the individuals who put on this festival. If they decide to do this event again in '09, the AAAlliance will definitely be there again, but we'll need to try to bring more people with us this time.
