2008 Spring Showcase
May 17, 2008
The AAAlliance Spring Showcase in Jamestown, NY was once again greeted by rainy weather, as well as spirits that once again refused to be dampened. This years' event marked the best turnout and the hardest rain yet for one of our 100 acre lot shows. The live music was provided by Sleeping Giant from Rochester, NY, The Global Village Idiots from Buffalo, Milking Large Mammals from Watertown, NY, and Cindy Haight and Smackdab from Jamestown, NY. New visual works were on display from long-time AAAlliance collaborators and new members alike, including Dave Grice, Kim Babnick, Bill Thomas, Erin Pickering, Steve Badgely, Jay Peck, and James Bliss. The flyer was designed by Nathan Long. This year's showcase was the first AAAlliance event for whi[...]

2008 Music Appreciation Day
May 9, 2008 - May 11, 2008
Music Appreciation Day 2008 took place on a beautiful plot of land in South Dayton, NY, during a perfect weekend. There was tons of room in the woods for camping, and plenty of parking which was nice and close to the camping. There were two different small stages, a pond where people were fishing and passing bottles of wine, and a REALLY strong, diverse lineup of bands hailing mainly from Western and Central, NY. The lineup included On The Sly, The Macro Meltdown, The Secret Stash, Headie Lemar, New Clear Fusion, and Ska/Funk from To The 9's, who had people talking all weekend, specifically about their cover of Warren G's "Regulators". This festival was also the first 2008 appearance of the AAAlliance Mobile Gallery Tent, with a one-man sh[...]

3 Sweet Days
September 1, 2007
This is a festival hosted on by a Fredonia-area band called On The Sly, who actually live at the 30 acre farm where the festival takes place. The music line up was incredible and diverse, featuring Smackdab, Besnyo, The Sleeping Kings of Iona, To the 9's, Sleeping Giant, Flood the Shoreline, and my personal new favorite: Mike Fyler and the Macro Meltdown. The AAAlliance tent for this weekend featured works by Nathan Long, David Grice, Angela Caley, and Bill Thomas. We were treated to one of the best sunsets in recent memory, and after the music on the stage had ended, at the AAAlliance tent the campfire songs rang out late into the night. It was a perfect ending to the festival season, and summer in general. This event definitely lived up [...]

Canoe Trip
July 25, 2007
2007 marked the seventh consecutive year of the "Canoe at Your Own Risk" overnight trip on the Allegany River from Warren, PA to Tidioutte, PA. This year saw the largest turnout ever, with over 40 people in 18 canoes and 6-8 kayaks. Because of the large number of participants, and the varying degrees of effort applied by the paddlers, we camped in two separate spots, with the lead group about 1 1/2 hours ahead of the larger second group. We all met up in the morning for breakfast and espresso (Thanks to Elise from Rider's Cup) on an island before heading out for the second and final day of paddling. We finished at a different location than previous years, which cut about 5 or 6 miles from the second day of the trip, making it feel as tho[...]

2007 Spring Showcase
May 1, 2007
The first show of 2007 was also our first attempt to have and outdoor show in Western NY in May. We ran the risk of cold weather, rain, or worse, but we were treated to a pretty nice day with a little bit of drizzle and mud, but not enough to dampen spirits. Each show that we have had at the JCC College Park has greeted us with rain. We got the Gallery Tent up before any drizzling happened, and we had a nice bonfire and plenty of food, space, and stuff to see under the pavilion and in the tent. Live Music was provided by our great friends The Audience, one again turning it out for us in our hometown, as well as troubadour John Crocker, a one-time project featuring Baxter from the Audience, Rhett Simko, and local hiphop artist D.D. The Rude[...]
