Chili Bowl Bash
December 23, 2011
On Christmas Eve-Eve 2011, Suburban Blend and the AAAlliance decided to celebrate the beginning of a brand new tradition known as The Chili Bowl Bash, which began last year as "The Chili Challenge". Basically, it's a skateboard contest, art opening, chili cook-off, and keg party in a huge skate ramp with a live band right after the contest ends (Green Genes again). Originally, we did the chili cook-off last year as a way to keep everyone at the party warm because the building was freezing. This year, we actually had some heaters, but we really love chili, and its a great cheap way to feed ALOT of people, so the tradition lives on! The guys from Southern Tier Brewing hooked us up with a great deal on frosty seasonal beverages, and tons of [...]

"King of the Ramp"
October 15, 2011
On October 11th 2011, our friends at Suburban Blend Skate & Snowboard Shop hosted the first King of the Ramp skate contest / party / art show in their newly completed skate bowl & some adjacent office spaces. The Blend Bowl is an indoor skateboarding facility unlike any in the Eastern US, and it lends itself to a faster, smoother style of skating, which is much closer to surfing or snowboarding than most modern street or park skating. The whole King of the Ramp party was organized as a benefit for the Active Artists Alliance, and it raised over 500 bucks for the cause, which we have already invested in some much needed new PA gear. The Babes of Wrath roller derby team volunteered their help working the door & running security,[...]

Angela Caley 2011 Coffeeshop shows
August 1, 2011
Way back in 2004, Angela Caley was a student at JCC, and Ryders Cup was a brand new coffee shop in it's original location on Fairmount Avenue. She arranged to have one of her very first solo painting shows there, and was only the second artist ever to hang her work upon their walls. In August 2011, Caley filled Ryders Cup's new Lakewood location with a mixture of new and older paintings, going back to about 2009. She chose pieces that she thought were suitable for the shop's regulars to sit amongst as they sipped their cappuccinos. The work was up through the end of August, but there was never a proper opening reception for this show. Then, in September, Ms. Caley hung four larger scale oil paintings in the front room of Labyrinth Press [...]

Bill Thomas / Angela Caley @ Forte & EBC
May 15, 2011 - January 10, 2012
AAAlliance co-founders Angela Caley and Bill Thomas had TWO shows together this past summer and fall at two very fine and unpretentious dining establishments in Chautauqua County. This was the first time these artists had shown their work together as a two-person show, as opposed to the larger AAAlliance group showcase events. From May to October 2011, their work adorned the bar and dining room walls of Forte the Restaurant, which is the absolute best dining experience available in downtown Jamestown. The bar is fairly small, well stocked and reasonably priced, and their $12 steak-and-a-beer special (with a local brew from Southern Tier, of course) is still one of the tastiest dinner deals to be found anywhere in the area. There was no offi[...]

Angela Caley / Tony Depew "This Must be the Place"
April 1, 2011
Angela Caley and Tony Depew's painting show, "This Must Be the Place" made 3rd on 3rd Gallery the place to be on April Fools Day in JTNY. Both artists are founding members of the AAAlliance, and have been friends since attending high school together in Canton, Ohio. After graduation in 1999, Depew went on to study painting and fine arts at Kent State before eventually moving to Brooklyn, where he still resides. Caley studied at Columbus College of Art & Design before dropping out to travel and have adventures. She landed in Western NY in 2001 and resumed her studies at JCC in Jamestown where she still resides. This was their first show together, as well as Depew's first WNY show. His pieces were all brand new, brightly colored acrylic[...]
