Cortney Ives
The wind is up
and the trees rush together
in reckless embraces.
After the long, still summer
colliding like lovers.

Or, a bus terminal
full of your family
come to greet you
crying, "Oh, how we've missed you!"

Branches, bodies,
dance and break
all joyfully.

If a gust
were to send me against you
swaying in my rooted lonesomeness-
How gladly I would go!
Greeting you bare armed
and breaking.
