Art of the Anew :: Domestic Violence Awareness Art Show :: JTNY

The Salvation Army Anew Center, Chautauqua County's domestic violence and rape crisis service provider, is hosting its first art exhibition during Domestic Violence Awareness Month! In "Art of the Anew: Domestic Violence Awareness Through Creative Art" the goal is to create stories surrounding gender-based violence and how it affects individuals, families, communities, and our world. Let's come together and instigate community wide discussions about the pervasiveness and often invisible nature of domestic violence through creative art.

All artistic media is accepted and must be submitted by October 10th. For more information, Contact Event Organizer Vanessa Weinert for more information. This event is one of awareness; however, artists may sell their pieces with a small percentage of the proceeds going to The Salvation Army Anew Center.

There will be an opening reception Friday October 14th at the Lillian V. Ney Rennaissance Center in Downtown Jamestown. Several AAAlliance Member Artists will be particpipating in this show.

Angela Caley @ Labyrinth Press Co :: Opening Reception :: JTNY

It's pretty much all there in the headline, folks. AAAlliance co-founder Angela Caley has a small collection of brand new, incredibly strong, oil paintings on canvas currently hanging in the front room at Labyrinth Press Company on 4th st. in Downtown Jamestown, NY.

There will be an opening reception with the artist tomorrow evening, Saturday September 17th, from 6-9pm. Music will be prvided by DJBT, spinning reggae, 80's funk, and old hip hop.

Ms.Caley's work can also currently be seen at Forte The Restaurant (3rd St, JTNY) hanging alongside newer work from long-time collaborator and fellow AAAlliance co-founder Bill Thomas. Their 2 person show at Forte will be hanging through mid-October.

In case you have missed us lately...
Posted September 06, 2011

As you may have noticed, activeartist.org has not been updated all summer. That doesn't mean we haven't been working and making stuff happen, it just means those of us who manage the website have been extremely busy creating and working day jobs in the real world.

Those of you who have been AAAlliance members for a year or more are probably used to these occasional "Hibernations" that the website goes through. We try to avoid them as much as possible, but inevitably, we sometimes go a few months without being able to update the website.

There are exciting new things on the horizon for our organization, and shows are being planned for this winter, spring 2012, and BEYOND. Apologies to everyone who has missed us, please stay tuned...

AAAlliance Summer Showcase :: Sat 6/11 :: JTNY
Posted June 08, 2011

Our Yearly Summer Showcase is also happening this Saturday, June 11th, at JCC Park on Curtis St. in Jamestown, NY, from 3-9pm. As always, this is a FREE, ALL AGES community event, featuring local art, live music, and one of the nicest park settings in WNY.

This years' Showcase will feature live music from Thee Audience, Grene Genes, Bryan Moore Solo, and a special surprise guest. It will also feature, for the first time ever, a live art auction called ARTBURN, which we hope will become a yearly event. It will feature original local artworks, available for auction with a relatively low opening bid. If the piece doesn't sell, we burn it on the bonfire. So if you see something you like, and it want to save it from certain destruction, you'd better put your money where your mouth is.

As usual, we will have picnic food and refreshments available all day for donations. We are able to continue doing these free events because of the generousity of our friends and family who attend and donate in order to support the Active Artists Alliance.

Help us continue to make interesting, independent cultural events happen in our home town. Come out and party with us to support the arts!
