2 BABY GRAMPS shows in JTNY :: Saturday 6/12

THIS SATURDAY, JUNE 12th, The beautiful city of Jamestown will be blessed not once, but TWICE, with performances from Seattle's Baby Gramps.

During the afternoon, he'll play at Part 2 of our Annual Spring Showcase at JCC Park on Curtis Street, from about 4-9pm, along with Hot Stenographer, Escape Tower, Cindy Haight, Katie Elfman, And others. When the Park closes at 9, we'll all head up to Mojo's Music Bar on 2nd Street for the AAAlliance after-party with Matt Homan & The Bluegrass Disciples, and a rocking late night set from Gramps. The Mojo's after-party goes from 10pm-2am with a cover of $5.

For those of you who don't already know, Baby Gramps is a world-renowned steel guitar player and blues / folk / hobo singer from Seattle, who has been performing at festivals, on streets and on concert stages since 1965. He sings with a voice that's a cross between Popeye and a Tuvan throat singer with a hint of Tom Waits, and he plays a sort of tricky, rhythmic guitar in his own style that he originated, which is known as "scribbling". The guitar is early 1900's National Resonator, and Gramps himself would appear to be from the very same era. His shows draw from an immense pool of traditional songs, blues standards, work songs, folk songs, show tunes, and original songs, and he never performs a song the same way twice.

He was featured on the Rogues Gallery album of sea shanties, which was released in 2006 and produced by Johnny Depp as a companion to the Pirates of the Caribbean movie series. Gramps has also appeared on Late Night with David Letterman, and has toured and performed all over the US and all through Europe and Australia as part of the Rogue's Gallery Tours.

This will be Gramps' first -ever appearance in Jamestown, NY, and probably your only chance to see him in The Northeastern US for the rest of the year, so don't miss out. People will be talking about this show for a long time to come.

Spring Showcase Part 1 :: THIS SATURDAY :: JCC Park, JTNY

This Saturday, May 29th , from 2-9pm we'll be having our annual Spring Showcase at JCC Park on Curtis Street in Jamestown, NY. This is our annual Show / Party / Picnic to celebrate the amazing community of Artists, Musicians, and cool business owners here in JTNY.

This year, we've decided to do things a little differently for this event. Since it's always such a good time, and always seems to end a little too early, we're going to make the Spring Showcase in to two separate events that will happen two weeks apart. Each will feature a different lineup of bands and a different collection of new artwork. As always, these will be FREE, ALL AGES shows for the whole community.

Part 1, This Saturday, will feature live music from:
Hypnotic Clambake Duo (their 1st AAAlliance Appearance!)
Pennsyltucky Peachpickers
Thee Audience
(1st show with their new drummer!)
Hunger Anthem
Cale Hawkins & Dan Witherspoon

and new visual work from several WNY AAAlliance member artists.

The after-party will be happening at Mojo's Music Bar on 2nd Street, with another epic set from superstar Klezmer-Zydeco-Funk weirdos Hypnotic Clambake Duo and an appearance from our old friends The American People from Warren, PA.

Vendela Grundell's new book Periscope

Vendela Grundell's new book Periscope

Long-time AAAlliance member Vendela Grundell, of Stockholm, Sweden, recently released her first photography book, entitled Periscope.

Vendela describes it as "a book of twenty photographic collages. A slow piecing together of images taken most impulsively, with a cell phone through a broken window on an express train to Arlanda Airport outside Stockholm. Moving through a shattered landscape illuminated by cracks in the glass, instigated thoughts of how the eye is connected to what it sees. The everyday flow of field and tree, sky and sun, transposed to an innerscape. The idea of a periscope is to organize your vision so that you may know what you see and where you are going. At the same time, that decision is yours to make. This periscope is a tool for disorientation, for looking into your own vision and end up in a very different place."
